The Practice Placement Team
The Practice Placement Team is a team of nurses, midwives and administrative staff who support students and mentors across University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, including all of our community sites too. The team is dedicated in ensuring placements are of a high standard and quality assured in terms of mentorship support and the student experience, which ultimately impacts upon patient care.
The team deliver a wide variety of educational updates for both mentors and students alike across all three sites.
The team collaborates closely with our local University partners and are regularly involved in OSCE assessments and pre-registration interviews.
They provide the following:
The Practice Placement Team support students from all fields of nurse training.The team also have a dedicated midwife supporting student midwives and mentors.
The Practice Placement Team facilitate a weekly forum on all three sites. This gives students the opportunity to collaborate with their colleges and discuss their placement experience, giving peer support and recieving direct support from the Placement team.
On all three sites there are also skills sessions to enhance the learning experience of our students. These skills session include: falls awareness, dietetics, Iiterview technique, numeracy skills, communication skills and airway management.
We offer a range of learning opportunities to Mentors these include: One to One Support in practice, Mentorship updates, Sign off mentor training and updates, Support in Delivery of the SLAiP (Standards to support learning and assessment in practice settings) Course.
This team is responsible for Pre-Registration Health Students, and is NOT involved in placing Work Experience Candidates, or those looking for hospital experience as part of a course. If you want work experience please see our work experience pages HERE
